Do the important people in your life support you in your business?
In this episode, we discuss what to do when people are just not “getting it”. Maybe they make passive aggressive comments, maybe they give you the blank stare, maybe they openly tell you you’re crazy to have your own business!
Does that mean you can’t love them and still have a great relationship with them?
Have a listen…
What do you think? Has there been a time when you didn’t feel supported in your business?
How did you handle it? Let me know in the comments below!
Thanks for listening!

Such a great topic! I think you also have to define what support means to you and be realistic about your expectations. It’s not realistic to assume other people to be as passionate about your vision for your business. When I first started my business, lots of friends said verbally, “I’ll support you!” and in my mind I thought they meant they will purchase my products right away. But when that wasn’t the case, I was frustrated. Now I understand that support could be time, helping you at a pop up event, sharing your company with friends, sharing a FB post on their timeline etc. It helps to communicate how you need support but always consider other people have a lot going on too, so if they can’t support you the way you want, don’t take it personally and don’t be discouraged. Just stay focused.

Sooooo good, Kisha! You are absolutely right about all of this. I hadn’t really thought of it quite that way to consider what support means to you & what’s realistic. Thank you so much for your insight.

Loved the podcast Jane! Great reminder about staying on course and understanding where others in your life are coming from. The analogy of your mom was spot on. And, Kisha I think you are right as well. I totally can relate to the feeling that family and friends not supporting you because they are not buying product. Thanks!

Good discussion. I’ve seen this situation with my parents. My mother was a self made business woman from scratch. My father didn’t give her the support she needed (time, sweat equity or finances). She got opposition, negativity, etc etc. But it didn’t deter her from making a go of her dream. She was her own coach, and made do by taking baby steps to start a business. Instead, she took positive action everyday and with determination she reached her goal. Lesson 1…go ahead, feel the fear, setbacks and all and do it anyway. Lesson 2…don’t put a deadline…commit to it everyday and that is your deadline til you get there. Lesson 3…seek other people . Another experience with this discussion happened to me 1 – 1/2 years ago. I went to visit my 2 brothers and lived with them for 6 months. One day, I was painting the outside kitchen wall to give it a lift and brightness. My older brother made negative remarks over my project while my younger brother encouraged me and I could still hear him say “ whatever you’re doing, keep it up”. So in this case, shut the negativity from those that block you from your dream and move yourself forward….remember Jane’s advice ….take imperfect actions …it’s okay, and from now on, stop discussing your business with friends or family that don’t support you. Stay the course. Email us and share your blues so we can give you some oranges( the color orange is positive energy).
