Instagram is NOT a marketing strategy. It’s only one piece of a strategy. And yet, so many entrepreneurs obsess over it and it frustrates me.
I have a question for you and please be honest.
How much time do you spend on Instagram?
And what’s the ROI of your time spent? Are you making money with Instagram? Is the effort you put in resulting in sales in a significant way — or any way at all?
This week, I’m not exactly sure why, so many of our members came to the coaching session and were really frustrated with Instagram.
What am I doing wrong with Instagram? Why isn’t this working better? What am I supposed to be posting? What’s the aesthetic? How do I get my brand message across? Why can’t I grow my account?
My response…guys, stop wasting so much time on Instagram!
There are a few ways to use it that are important and great. I’m not dissing on Instagram. I’m just telling you, it’s not driving that much traffic for that many people.
There are 3 main ways to use IG to actually move the needle on your business growth. Do these 3 things and you will see better results.

I think a video challenge would be great. I’ve been thinking a lot about doing video.
Jane says
Hi Laurren! Sounds great. The first step is thinking about video and being aware. What do you think is holding you back from getting started?
Jennifer Angelo says
loved the podcast on Instagram. Great stuff.
Can you tell me more about the video challenge?
I attended your workshop in Chicago at a Wholesale Fabric conference. 2018
Jane says
Hi! Right now the video challenge is just an idea. I’m checking to see how many people are interested. Basically, the idea would be to make a 1 to 3 minute video every day for 30 days. And use these videos to provide value to the audience and direct people to sign up on your email list.

Thanks!
I absolutely hate being in front of the camera, seriously, i don’t like it.
What other type of video can I do, that my face ain’t in? 🙂
Karka says
I so understand you Ani! I like recording things and maybe talk a little but not where you can see my face. Plus, my bottom teeth are crooked HAHAHAHAHA
jane312 says
Hello Karka! Check the comment I posted for Ani. Try the “river talk” strategy. Because, you know…”perfect is good but DONE is better.”

Hi Ani! You’re not alone with not wanting to be on camera . Most people feel awkward, for sure. I still feel awkward and I;ve made hundreds of videos.
A few ideas for you:
1) Get someone from your team to make the videos. Years ago I had a summer intern make “explainer” videos for my business because I did not want to be on video. Any business can do the same thing…”Hi! I’m part of Jane’s team for the summer and here are 3 things I learned about ____________. For me it was explaining what we do and how to work with us. For you, it could be “3 ways to wear it” video that you shoot on her.
2) Make videos using a series of still shots. Many of my clients use wave.video for this. Works like a charm!
3) You do the talking but point the camera away from you. You could do a tour of your office or studio this way, show new products, or demonstrate how something works. Alternatively, I have shot IG Live videos from a bridge overlooking the CHicago river. The viewer watched the river flow while I talked about marketing tips. I shot them early on my morning walks and did NOT feel ready to show my face. The videos became “river talk” and viewers actually liked them! I;ve also given a little tour of my garden this way and talked about business – not showing my face.
Of course, it’s ideal if you would consider being on camera. No rush to decide, but be open to the idea. And keep in mind it’s not about YOU. It’s about the value the video content brings THEM.
Make sense?
